Training Boxer Dogs Points to Remember

Pets are more lovable when they obey your commands. Training Boxer dogs can be fun. They’re very intelligent and one of the best breeds to train. Training Boxers can be easy if you start training them while they’re still young. On the other hand, they may be hard-headed. Known for being a family-loving dog, Boxer dogs are considered one of the top breed for obedience training.

Like most dog breeds, training Boxer dogs requires a lot of time and consistency, Boxers love to play, jump on kids and people and very energetic. Their intelligence is a plus but if not properly taught, it can be destructive if they find ways to get the things they want. Training Boxer dogs needs to start as early as possible. It makes it easier to train them and can prevent them from forming bad habits later in life.

Be The Leader of Your Boxer’s Pack

Since Boxers are tough and smart, they might try to take control and become your boss. Before starting training Boxer dogs, you should make them feel that you are the leader and are have the authority over them. In this way, they will obey you. Reinforce their good behaviors with treats and rewards. Always remember to “never to spoil” them for doing a bad behavior.

Straight, Simple Commands with Treats

Do you remember teaching your toddler his first words? Training Boxer dogs is like that. Boxers may be intelligent but giving them long commands doesn’t work well…especially when they’re still young. Start by giving them easy-to-follow commands like stand, sit, turn around, stop, and walk and so on. Once they are able to perform these commands, reinforce thir good behavior by giving them a treat, a meal, meat or anything that they love to eat. It makes them happy and lets them realize that what they are doing makes their owner happy. Boxers love rewards!

Be Consistent

Here comes the power of repetition. “Practice makes perfect!” Repeating the commands helps them form new positive habits. It instills in their minds what they’ve learned. As time goes by, these new behaviors will come to them naturally when you give them the command.

Command With Signs And Gestures

In training Boxer dogs, give them verbal and physical commands. Use gestures and signs, especially if it’s the first time you teach them something new. For example, if you want your Boxer to sit, say “sit!” while lifting your hands and making a stop sign with your hand going downward. Your dog will get the idea that he should be sitting.

Since we are still under the gestures category of training Boxer Dogs, I want to discuss the importance of teaching your dog not to poop anywhere in the house. This is one of the problems dog owners encounter and can be quite frustrating. Training them where to poop is very important. You must give them an authoritarian look while teaching them, so they’ll know you’re not happy with any bad behaviors.

While this training Boxer dogs may at times exhaust your dog, always give time for them to take a break. Give them proper nutrition and rest. Training Boxers can be a very enjoyable experience with their high-spirited nature.
